6 a.m. Your alarm goes off. You wake up, put your workout clothes. It's time for work. You open the fridge, it's empty. You grab your keys, and run off to your first workout of the day. Lift. Two hours in the weight room, lifting 60-90 percent of you max weight. When your finished, you shower and head to class. 4 classes back to back. Your hungry, tired, and trying to stay alert in class. When the last one ends, your headed back to the gym. Team workouts for two hours, conditioning and agility for an hour and a half, and pool workouts for an hour. It's 6 o'clock. You leave the gym, eat in the cafeteria, walk to your room, and finally, get some rest. This is the daily work schedule for most Division 1 athletes, and it's all done without pay.
Student athletes, at any level of the Division 1 ladder, are all putting in the same amount of work and dedication to their schools sports program. There not shelling out those millions of dollars in revenue from sponsorships and tv deals. However, attracting students to the school and money in ticket sales is still bringing in extra money, especially when sports teams win their conference championship. Student and faculty moral goes up, the school has something to brag about, and it attracts incoming students as sports fans and potential prospects of the program.
But, Universities like Ole Miss and the University of Texas, who make their school about 120,000,000 dollars for the school deserve a higher pay. They're on television, in video games, and make numerous apperances on ESPN. If they're glorified like professional atheltes then they should be paid like one. Especially when there coaches are paid like they're in the pros. John Calipri, University of Kentucky's Basketball coach gets paid about 6 million dollars a year.

Theres a misconception that if student athletes are paid they'll be driving around campus in a flashy mercedes benz with gold chains hanging from their necks.
